A Surprise Testimonial

October 27, 2014

I woke up yesterday morning to discover this lovely surprise review in my email inbox! Thank you so much, Kate, for writing. It brought such a smile to my heart. I am lucky to have such amazing families to photograph :-)

"It's one of those important projects that I have meaning to address for a few years now, but life kept getting in the way: professional family photographs. I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment for my family. After the shoot, I found myself asking, "Why did I wait so long?"

I wasn't looking for formal poses or anything fussy, but I wanted an experienced and friendly professional to capture the beautiful and fleeting moments of my children's lives. Peter, 11; Tess, 5; and Luke almost 3, are growing up at record speed. I am sure other parents can relate all too well to this feeling.

My iPhone photos pile up and clog my phone's memory, and I often say to myself that I need to produce actual prints from the hundreds of snapshots. Once a year, I might make good on my intentions. And while the phone snapshots are OK, they aren't great. And I wanted great -- meaningful, memorable, and cherished so that when I look back at them years from now, I'm transported back to my children's childhoods.

There is nothing like working with someone who knows exactly what she's doing. The experience is not only enjoyable but also comfortable and relaxed. Many photographers can take good photos, but Avi Loren Fox brought other intangible qualities to our shoot: an experienced artistic eye, in-depth knowledge of our location, and kindness in the ways she interacted with each member of my family. Avi took great care to capture the quiet moments and the more playful ones, and everything in between.

Avi kindly and warmly photographed our family hanging out and playing in lovely Narberth Park. Lucky for us, the weather was on our side. It was a lovely fall day with a beautiful blue sky. Crunchy and soft yellow and orange leaves dotted the lush green grass and pine-needle carpet beneath our feet.  Sunshine pierced through the large evergreens in the field, creating lovely sunny and shady patterns on the grass.

My family -- thankfully -- cooperated throughout the process, even dressing a little spiffier than normal. We weren't dressed alike but slightly coordinated in blue.

I am so grateful to Avi for her professionalism, time, and care to ensure a successful photo shoot. I'm excited to see this gifted artist's finished work.

After the family photo shoot, Avi photographed me by myself for work purposes. I was looking for creative, non-stuffy head shots that I can use for professional purposes and on Linked In, Twitter, etc. I wear eyeglasses that seemingly camouflage my eyes in photos, and Avi worked to keep my eyes open and part of the photos. We worked together to find the right background and the right hair/pose/hand position so that I felt natural and relaxed. The beautifully aged and weathered brick walls of the Narberth Library transported me to a hip building in SoHo in NYC. I don't enjoy smiling for the camera and typically avoid having my photo taken. I sometimes feel like I lack authenticity -- like my smile isn't my "real" smile but a put-on one for the camera. I often feel uncomfortable before the camera and at odds with it. DO I look old? Do I look fat? I didn't want it to be like this. Avi helped me find my real self in these head shots, and I am so deeply grateful to her for that.

So if you are looking for professional photographs of your family or to freshen up your Linked In profile page with creative and personal yet professional head shots, please do call Avi and book your appointments. But once word gets out about how great Avi is, I have a feeling that her availability will be incredibly tight."

Sincerely,
Kate Szumanski
